An Olympic-size celebration - Portsmouth honors LaShawn Merritt



Portsmouth honored native son Lashawn Merritt with a homecoming parade. A graduate of Wilson High School, LaShawn won two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympic games. The parade culminated with presentations by city leaders and remarks from the champion.


The Cavalier Manor Spartan cheerleaders were excited to march in the parade.

Mark Geduldig-Yatrotsky biked from Churchland to the waterfront for the festivities.

Portsmouth mayor James Holley made a presentation on behalf of the city.

LaShawn Merritt won gold in the 400 meter and the 4x400 relay. He thanked his hometown for their support.
